Wow. Somehow it's been almost 10 days since I posted last. I really want to be a little more regular in my blog posts than that, but I feel like it's taking me some time to get into a rhythm. Actually, I have quite a few things to blog about, so writing isn't the hard part. Getting pictures of my projects to go with the posts is my stumbling block.
My sewing area in my house is downstairs in our daylight basement. It's not a great space, decor-wise (we rent, so I have limited options to change this) and has little natural light, so I really need to bring my projects upstairs to get good photos. It's amazing how easy that is to put off, especially with an almost-one-year-old running (okay, crawling) around the house. Still, I'm starting to get caught up with my photos, so expect more soon.
Anyway, I decided to take a little detour from jumping right into my next project with the shorts to make teething guards for the rails on Sebastian’s crib. He has recently started gnawing on the crib rails when he wakes up from his naps, making lovely little scrape marks on his crib rails. Sure it makes his crib look bad, but what bothers me more is that I come in and he has varnish all around his mouth. This can’t be a good thing, so I decided to look for rail guards.
Man, do you know how much those things cost?!
$25 a pop, that’s how much! And we need 3: one for the front and two for the sides (we have a convertible crib, so the back is too tall and curved for him to munch now). I couldn’t stand spending $75 for something I could easily make for $20 total. So I took a trip to the fabric store two Fridays ago and started making my own. Here they are:
These were so easy that I decided to make a tutorial. It took me a while to get photos for everything to go along with it, but I'm set with those now, so I just need to put everything together. Watch for it soon!
Also, I have since started my shorts. I'm about a third of the way through sewing them and so far they are going SO much better than the jeans. The fly looks great! I was hoping to have a little bit more time to work on them over the long weekend, but we just ended up having a lot of other things going on. Still, I only started them last Friday, so I've made a lot of progress since then. I hope to have them finished by this weekend at latest. I had better because I have fabric for my summer dress ordered and on the way and I need time to sew that puppy! I leave on vacation in two weeks! Aaaaah!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend too!
